And we're at the end of another year Reader,

How was it for you? Mine was a mixed bag, full of learnings, challenges, joys and expansion — personally and professionally.

I hope you've had some time to slow down this month, to spend quality time with those dearest to you, or to enjoy yourself someplace nice! 🌞

I've been immersed in reflection, harnessing the special energy of these days between Christmas and New Year, letting things bubble up from my subconscious, to provide guidance for the year ahead. I've been journalling, noting down my dreams, and reflecting on virtues I want to embody... very insightful and feels like I'm setting myself up for a promising year ahead 🌈

Usually in this final email of the year, I speak about the end of year review...this year though, I want to share about the power of intention, and word for the year.✨

Have you ever set intentions? Either for a project, an event, or a year ahead?

It's a powerful practice. Much softer than setting a target or a goal, it's more about setting a direction, a focus in a way.

It's a higher perspective, connecting all of your goals and hopes for the year ahead, and going beyond them — relating to your way of being, encompassing the theme or flavour of what you wish your year to be.

And this is where word for the year comes in. It's just as it sounds — a single word (or a short phrase) that encompasses your core intention for the year.
​
How I tend to arrive at mine is not through head-based thinking, but by tuning into my deeper sense of knowing — where I have been this year, where I am now, and what I most need right now — my word for the year represents that which would make my coming year fulfill that need.
​
Some of my past words for the year have been:

Spaciousness
Opportunity
Ease & Lightness
Soft Power

It's more than just our wishing of course, the intention is about choosing to go in this direction, to manifest this way of being in the coming year. But it's also non-grasping. I love this firm yet soft nature of intentions and word for the year.
​

I've done this kind of intention setting for several years now, and I'm often amazed at just how magically it works 🪄
​
One of my favourite ways to stay connected to my intentions and word throughout the year, is by making a visionboard. In fact, the word sometimes arises after I make the visual. I haven't done one for this year — but I want to do it again for 2024!
